Ninety-plus years of pastrami and history
Canter's opened in 1931 and never really closed. Under the famous autumn-leaves ceiling, the deli has fed generations of Angelenos — night-shift workers and new parents, comedians workshopping bits in the booths, musicians stumbling in from the Kibitz Room stage next door.
The neon sign out front is a Fairfax District landmark. The menu behind it hasn't chased a trend since Herbert Hoover was president.
